My Turn Your Turn, the seventh CD from award-winning singer-songwriter, Cathy Bollinger sparkles with thoroughly singable songs that gently address the needs of children who find social interaction confusing or challenging.
Using descriptive, social story-like phrases to talk about concrete situations, My Turn Your Turn sings children through the tricky territory of engaging with others. Songs touch on empathy, asking for help, handling anger, and other daily social skills. With music that makes lessons fun to learn, Bollinger, a trained music therapist, breaks common everyday interactions down into simpler and more understandable activities.
Whoever said children’s music had to just be for kids? Parents will love the effect of good manners mixed with terrific music.
Cathy Bollinger, a music therapist with a lovely voice, has put together 14 original songs to help children deal with different social interactions and learn how to engage with others. The songs deal with concrete situations, such as taking turns; saying "Excuse me," "Please," and "Thank you"; requesting assistance; helping others; dealing with emotions; listening skills; and playing together. Bollinger also gives tips to parents on how to use the songs. An array of nicely performed instruments include guitars, drums, ukulele, fiddle, harmonica, bass, flute, trumpets, piano, clarinet, piccolo, mandolin, recorder, sax, trombone, keyboard, and timbamallet. Bollinger employs several musical styles: folk, jazz, country, rock, Latin, and Hawaiian. A great resource for both parents and educators.
I just wanted to let you know that we LOVE the CD: MY TURN YOUR TURN: Songs for Building Social Skills. My nephew Nathan, who is 8 now, is diagnosed PDD-NOS and he loves going places withme so we can sing as we drive. I take him to a speech therapy session once a week, an hour drive each way and we take it all in stride as he is learning the words to the songs, requests the CD as soon as he buckles up, and even I sing along! Hey, what else am I gonna do? The songs are awesome and I look forward to Nathan learning the thoughts, feeling, coping skills that go along with the songs as he becomes older and continues to sing along. I will be ordering more of that CD plus others. Please know how important this CD is to this little boy and to me! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
MY TURN YOUR TURN: Songs for Building Social Skills Songwriter Cathy Bollinger, in collaboration with Elly Tucker, has crafted fourteen songs to reinforce necessary and often lacking social skills such as saying "˜hello" when you meet someone; taking turns; saying "excuse me" to get people's attention; and making eye contact. Lyrics are included and can be a tool for teaching social skills in a fun way.
"Hi, I just got my copy in the mail and my daughter absolutely loves it. I don't know yet whether she will take the lessons on the CD and use them, but I do know that she has asked me to play the CD about nine times since we got it three days ago. She really loves the songs. Oh, and for reference, she is 10."
"I LOVE the CD!! CONGRATULATIONS on this work...Not only are the lyrics good, the music is nice! This is rare...It is usually one or the other."
"...The music titles are perfectly suited for social skill building and very clever. There is a wide range of ages of boys and girls singing the songs, which is appropriate for all age groups and functions of children along the Autism Spectrum..."
